The Day of the Dead celebration in San Miguel de Allende is such a spectacular event that it has caught the attention of Forbes, which published this article from Fathom contributor Veronique Pittman:
The world’s eyes are tuned to the devastation that Hurricane Sandy rained on the eastern United States. New York City and New Jersey, the hardest hit areas, are rebuilding and restoring life as quickly and valiantly as possible. As the calendar turned to Halloween and cancelled festivities, in Mexico, they’re celebrating Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, a celebration that incorporates the Catholic traditions of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2). This year, environmentalist and Fathomcontributor Veronique Pittman debuts La Calaca , a citywide arts and culture festival in San Miguel de Allende from November 1-4, 2012. Her story is a great one about death and rebirth, about maintaining old traditions in modern times, and ultimately about remembering, respecting, and celebrating loss.
